Jack Kirby is well known for creating characters like the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and Captain America that it’s easy to forget that he was the genesis of the X-Men too! Presenter Seán McArdle has been researching Jack’s history and artwork over the last couple of years and looks forward to sharing what he’s learned about this master of the medium!
Jack Kirby, arguably the father of the superhero comics medium, counted the X-Men as one of the many teams of characters that he created for Marvel Comics, along with Stan Lee. Learn about Jack’s backstory, from his youth on the Lower East Side of New York City to his migration to California where he spent the majority of his life. I’ll detail his career timeline, from when he briefly began working in animation at the Fleischer studios on Popeye, through his days working in newspaper comic strips and editorial cartoons, to his prolific partnership with Joe Simon in the early of days of comics, to the establishment of Marvel and their heroes, his move to DC to create Darkseid and the Fourth World, to his own Captain Victory. In addition to that, you’ll see some of his amazing fine artwork, the collages, the paintings, and especially his amazing pencils. Participants will also hear audio recordings of the King of Comics himself! As an added bonus, there will be Kirby-inspired 3D printed Kirby props to see, too!
